The Trinity Shamrocks, the top rated team in the state, defeated the #4 ranked St Xavier Tigers for the seventh straight year on Friday night in front of more than 23,000 rain soaked fans. The rivalry between the two catholic schools is one of the best in the country and the series record can’t get much closer with Trinity holding a slight two game lead over St Xavier, 38-36-2.

GAME SUMMARY

The two teams played it close to the vest early and the game was tied 7-7 before Junior RB Donald Brooks scored on a 13 yard reception in the 2nd quarter. Just before the halftime break St Xavier kicked a FG and the score was 14-10 at intermission. Trinity scored in the 3rd but missed the extra point and St Xavier answered with a touch down run early in the 4th quarter to cut the lead to 20-17. However, the Tigers from St Xavier would get no closer as game MVP Donald Brooks scored again and a late field goal made the final score 29-17.
