Within the Monsignor Martin Association of Buffalo, NY lies the fierce and historic rivalry of Canisius Preparatory High School and St. Joseph High School. On a day in which the 85th meeting in 95 years between these teams was part of the Great American Rivalry Series, Time Warner Cable Sports Channel broadcasted the gridiron game, present by the Marines, live on television and the web. The Great American Rivalry Series was onsite with great presence for what many locals say is easily the biggest game in West New York. St. Joe holds the record for wins in the series, but were outperformed by the offensive line of the Canisius Crusaders and too many Marauder mistakes. Nearly 6,000 spectators attended the game held at Koessler field.

GAME SUMMARY

“As expected, St. Joe’s put up quite the fight against bitter rival Canisius. In fact the Marauders seemed like they had everything under control late in the second quarter while nursing a lead.It was at that point where they started losing it, as two turnovers opened the door for Canisius to not only seize momentum but also once again get the better of its old friend.” –Prep Talk
