This rivalry game is the beginning of a big region rivalry, due to redistricting. The first game for Daphne regardless who they are playing is always the single most attended football game in the Daphne area and most talked about game all year between the two schools. Both Saraland and Daphne are highly ranked teams among the community.

Gerald is remembered around Daphne for his great play during the championship run in 2011. Mostly remembered for his big play against Opelika was his claim to fame. He picks up a punt that was held up by the wind and returns it for a touchdown. That play propelled Daphne on to the 6A State Title game, where they would claim their first title in school history.

GAME SUMMARY

Daphne and Saraland scored touchdowns back to back in the first quarter, Daphne then took the lead. Saraland scored 21 unanswered points to take control of the game, then made a defensive stand deep in their own territory as time expired, with the game tied 21-21 at the half, Saraland got an 11-yard TD pass from quarterback Chris Weaver to running back Sean Long and a bulldozing, 36-yard run by Long to take what look like a commanding 35-21 lead.
