The Watsonville Wildcatz held on for a 27-20 win over the Santa Cruz Cardinals on Friday night. Over 500 fans attended the game at Watsonville High School, which hosted the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps. The rivalry is one of the oldest in California, having started in 1908. Watsonville leads the all-times series 54-37-5.

GAME SUMMARY

Quarterback Nick Carillo was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player after rushing for 105 yards and a TD and throwing for another score. His 92-yard TD run gave the Wildcatz a 27-14 cushion. A 67-yard TD pass from Tyler Shank to Alex Morris eventually cut the lead to one-possession with a minute to go, but Watsonville was able to hang on.
