This rivalry between these two schools is one that dates back to the 1960s. The Newnan Cougars have long battled with the East Coweta Indians for the coveted ‘barrel’ – an item that is half painted with purple for East Coweta and half painted blue for Newnan. On the side of the barrel are the dates of when each team won the Rivalry game. East Coweta came into the game with possession of the barrel, as they beat Newnan last year 28-0. During this year’s game, the Newnan Cougars were able to take back the coveted barrel from the Indians with a 30-28 win.
