This intense rivalry pits two teams on opposing sides of Indianapolis against each other, Carmel to the north and Center Grove to the south in Greenwood, IN. Nicknamed the Copper Kettle game, these teams are extremely competitive in Indianapolis, a city with plenty of great football. Since the two teams first started playing in the same conference in the mid-1990s, the series has been extremely close.
Eight of the matchups have been decided by four points or less. Carmel does hold the lead in the Copper Kettle game 11-8. Center Grove will be looking to edge closer with a win in this season’s matchup.

Cade Lansdell
Center Grove
Cade Lansdell is the 2018 Great American Scholarship Award winner from Center Grove High School. He is achieving this honor because of his excellent 4.37 GPA as a Center Grove student athlete. Cade is a 2 year letter winner for the Center Grove high school football team. He serves as a leader by example in the classroom and on the football field serving as one of the senior team captains. His extra-curricular activities include National Honor Society, Student Government, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 6th Grade religious education teacher, and is a volunteer at Camp Ability for handicap students along with volunteering at the Center Grove Bantam football camps. Cade was Academic 1st team All Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference 2016 and 2017. He Plans to attend Notre Dame or Duke University, to study Biology/ Pre Medicine.
Matt Fortier
Carmel
Matt Fortier is a three year letter winner for the Greyhounds in football. He starts at cornerback, kicker, and punter. Matt has a 4.2 GPA and is also very involved at Carmel High School. He is a member of the prestigious Ambassadors Show Choir as well as the Select Sound. He plans on majoring in engineering after high school. Matt is accompanied by his father, Todd Fortier.

Andy Moore
Center Grove
Andy Moore started at Offensive Tackle in this Great American Rivalry game 3 times as a high school player and has had the privilege to coach in this great rivalry 13 times. As a player he helped guide Center Grove to its very first victory over the Carmel Greyhouds in 2000. In addition, Andy has been involved in this great series more than any other player/coach from Center Grove high school. Andy continued his education and football at University of Indianapolis where he was an All-Conference player. In 2000, Andy was selected to the Indiana High School Football Coaches Association, Top 50 team, as well as the Indiana North South All-Star football team. Andy Moore returned home to coach at Center Grove in 2006, being on staff for 2 state championship teams (2008, 2015). We are proud to honor Andy Moore, to be the first inductee, into the Great American Rivalry Game Hall of Fame.
John Hebert
Carmel
Carmel High School head coach John Hebert is a 1989 graduate of Carmel High school. After receiving all-state honors, he went on to play football at Purdue University. John has been a member of the coaching staff since 2000 and was named head coach in 2015. His 2016 team won the eighth football state championship for Carmel High School.
