These two schools opened in 1972 after the split of Murfreesboro Central High School and had their first meeting in 1974. Riverdale leads 32-16 (Warriors lead 3-2 in playoff games), with Oakland winning the last six meetings. Voted the #1 rivalry in the Midstate area in 2015, this season there was some added excitement with both teams being undefeated heading into Friday night’s matchup. It is known in the area as the “Battle of the Boro” and there is a trophy that is given to the winning team each year.

Brady has been a part of the Riverdale High School football team for four years. He has started on the varsity team for two of those years. Not only has Brady excelled on the field, but he also excels in the classroom.

Riverdale

Noah has been a member of the football team for four years and holds a 3.95 GPA. Noah is a member of the Beta club and the National Honors Society. He is an active in his church youth group and plays the drums for the church band.

Matt Parker

Oakland

Matt played in the Oakland-Riverdale all four of his years in high school. As a team captain in 2001, he helped lead his team to a 10-3 record and a state quarterfinal finish. He was a first team all-state selection and was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2001. He holds the single season interception record for Oakland with 13.
Corey Carney

Riverdale

Corey played in the Riverdale-Oakland rivalry game in his sophomore through his senior year. As quarterback of the 1994 team, he led his team to its first state championship and finished the season undefeated. During the final game of his senior season, his interception in the closing seconds sealed the state championship for the Warriors.

GAME SUMMARY

Riverdale took an early first quarter lead to make it 7-0, but that would be the only time that they held the lead all game. Oakland, led by RB Jeron Rooks, answered the early Warriors touchdown by scoring 40 unanswered points and then capped off the game with a field goal to make the final score 43-14.
