Rivalry Series presents first GAME OF THE WEEK broadcast on September 25!

September 25, 2010

For the first time in the history of the Great American Rivalry Series, select contests have been designated as “The Great American Rivalry Series Game of the Week.” These games will be featured via LIVE video webcast, allowing high school enthusiasts across the nation and service men and women around the world the chance to witness high school football at its best.

The first Game of the Week is slated for Saturday, September 25, at 7pm EST as St. Vincent-St. Mary takes on Archbishop Hoban in Akron OH. Often referred to as the “Akron Holy War,” this match-up is usually one of the most anticipated games in Northeast Ohio. The schools are located just miles apart and have heated rivalries in every sport, with the football rivalry beginning in 1959. In 1996, the rivalry was resumed after it was discontinued in 1977 when school administrators deemed it had become too heated. Last year, over 12,000 spectators turned out for the game.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
