PREVIEW: Sachem North vs. Sachem East (NY)

September 25, 2012

Sachem North will play Sachem East this Saturday at 1:30 PM. This rivalry is relatively new with the first game between the two being played in 2005. Sachem North won last season’s matchup in the Suffolk County semi-finals, 57-6, and currently holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Sachem North is looking to get back to the Suffolk County finals for a 4th straight year. North lost in the finals last year to Floyd on their way to posting a 9-2 record on the season. Sachem North has posted a 30-4 record in their previous 4 seasons, the 4 loses are against Floyd. Junior Trent Crossan will return this season from knee surgery to start at quarterback for the Flaming Arrows. Senior Tyler Andreassi and junior Malik Pierre will each see carries at the running back position. Both will play linebacker on defense. Seniors Stephen Miller and Nick Dirossi will anchor the offensive and defensive lines for the Flaming Arrows.

Sachem East will try to build off of last season’s success when the Flaming Arrows won their first playoff game since the district split. East finished with a 6-4 record, making it to the Suffolk County semi-finals before losing to North. East returns its main playmaker from last year in senior running back Steve Casali. In East’s first game against Northport, Casali rushed for 239 yards and 3 touchdowns and etched his name as the all-time leading rusher at Sachem East. Casali will also play linebacker on top of his running duties. Junior Dan Wolff will start at quarterback for the Flaming Arrows. Senior Brian Balsamo will be Wolff’s go-to target at wide receiver. The defense will be led by a trio of seniors. Ryan Dippel will be a defensive back, David Foster will start at defensive end and Mike Marchello will play defensive and offensive tackle.
