PREVIEW: Sachem North vs. Northport (NY)

October 2, 2013

LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY – The Sachem North Flaming Arrows and the Northport Tigers will meet on Friday at 7:30 p.m. (EST) at Fred Fusard Alumnus Stadium. Over 3,000 fans will be in attendance for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

The Tigers won last season’s meeting 33-10 to break a five-game losing streak. They hold a 19-4-2 edge in the all-time series, which began in 1975.

After finishing last season 8-3, the Flaming Arrows are off to a 3-0 start with their last win 49-32 over Longwood. Coach Dave Falco’s team, which returns 22 seniors, features a potent rushing attack, led by senior quarterback Trent Crossan and junior backs Malik Pierre, Kevin Bragaglia and Anthony Ross. Entering the season, the foursome had combined for 3,581 yards and 34 TDs with Crossan and Pierre each over 1,000 yards.

The Tigers are also having a solid start to the season, as they are currently 2-1 after a 20-0 win over Sachem East in their last game. Coach Kip Lukrelle’s team went 6-4 last season and was only two wins shy of reaching the state quarterfinals.

In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
