November 11, 2013

ROCKLIN, CA – The Sierra Foothill League championship is on the line when the Rocklin Thunder take on the Del Oro Golden Eagles on Friday at 10:15 p.m. (EST) at Thunder Stadium. More than 7,000 fans are expected for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Army and Hibbett Sports.

Both Rocklin and Del Oro, separated by only six miles, are both undefeated in SFL play, coming into the game at 4-0. Del Oro won last season’s meeting 38-35 after a last-second field goal.

The Thunder, coached by Greg Benzel, went 5-6 last season but are 7-2 in 2013 after a 31-14 win over Roseville. Sophomore back Evyn Holtz had another breakout game, rushing for 229 yards and four scores. It was his second straight 200-yard performance.

The Casey Taylor-coached Golden Eagles are also 7-2 after a record-breaking 70-21 win over Nevada Union (it was the most points they had ever scored in a game). Senior quarterback Michael Moore threw for 216 yards and totaled five TDs, while sophomore receiver Trey Udoffia had 121 yards and two scores.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
