PREVIEW: Port Huron Northern vs. Port Huron (MI)

September 26, 2013

PORT HURON, MI – Who will get the Brick Fowler Trophy? That will be determined when the Port Huron Northern Huskies meet the Port Huron Big Reds on Friday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. More than 6,000 fans from the crosstown rivals are expected to show up for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

Port Huron Northern leads the all-time series 32-14 over Port Huron, which won last season’s matchup 45-20. The winner claims the Brick Fowler Trophy.

The Big Reds are coached by Ryan Mullins. They went 7-3 last season and are currently 3-1 this season, coming off a big 40-14 win over Cousino, their third straight of the season.

On the other side, the Huskies have already doubled their win total from all of last season, opening 2-2. They won their first game in over a year and their first game at home since 2011 earlier this season. The Pat Connell-coached team will try to bounce back from a 47-7 loss to Dakota.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
