VALDOSTA, GA – The annual “Winnersville Classic” is upon us as the Lowndes Vikings face the Valdosta Wildcats on Friday at 8 p.m. (EST) at Martin Stadium. More than 11,000 fans are expected for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
The Vikings won last season’s matchup 17-14 win on a last-second field goal and have won eight of the last nine. The series dates back nearly 50 years with the Wildcats holding a 34-17 advantage. The last three matchups have been decided in the final 25 seconds.
Lowndes is coached by Randy McPherson and went 9-2 last season. This season, Lowndes is 4-2 after a 38-30 win over Brunswick in which it ran for 359 yards.
Valdosta – which is the winningest program in the country with over 870 wins and 24 state titles – went 7-4 last season and is currently 4-1 after its first loss, 14-0 to Camden County.
