PREVIEW: Lakeland vs. Kathleen (FL)

October 28, 2013

LAKELAND, FL – A district championship is on the line when the Lakeland Dreadnaughts and the Kathleen Red Devils square off on Friday at 7 p.m. (EST) at Bryant Stadium. An estimated 10,000 fans are expected to come out for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

With both teams – separated by just five miles – undefeated in Class 7A, District 5 play, the title is at stake. Lakeland won last season’s meeting 28-27 and hasn’t lost to Kathleen since 1992.

The Dreadnaughts beat Ridge 35-13 to move to 9-0 under coach Bill Castle. They went 9-2 last season and are led by quarterback Christian Alexander (1,245 yards and 16 TDs) and backs Ra’Don Dwight (636 yards and 15 TDs) and Anthony Davis (612 yards and 5 TDs).

The Red Devils, coached by Irving Strickland, are coming off a 6-5 season in which they lost four games by a total of only 10 points. They are 7-1 in 2013 after a 35-20 win over Jenkins. Quarterback Kevin Wilson (749 yards and 9 TDs) and Anthony Ware (528 yards and 10 TDs) are the catalysts.
