PREVIEW: Hahnville vs. Destrehan (LA)

October 1, 2013

BOUTTE, LA – The Hahnville Tigers and the Destrehan Wildcats will compete in another edition of the annual “Battle on the River” on Friday at 8 p.m. (EST) at Hahnville High School. Over 6,000 fans are expected to witness a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corp and Hibbett Sports.

The rivalry, which goes back to 1946, is one of the most passionate and thrilling in Louisiana. Destrehan leads the all-time series 30-20-2, but Hahnville has won four straight (47-44 in overtime last season).

The Tigers, coached by Llen Michael, went 6-5 last season and are currently 2-2 after a last-second 27-24 win over Thibodaux. They are searching for their first state title since 2003.

The Wildcats, coached by Stephen Robicheaux , already matched last season’s win total with a 4-0 start. They crushed Terrebonne 42-17. They won back-to-back state titles in 2007 and 2008 but have just a 14-28 record since then.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
