PREVIEW: Gonzaga (DC) vs. Georgetown Prep (MD)

September 9, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – The Georgetown Little Hoyas and the Gonzaga Eagles will meet once again on Saturday at 2 p.m. (EST). Over 2,500 fans are expected at Gonzaga High School for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

Gonzaga easily beat Georgetown Prep 44-14 last season and has won five of the last seven meetings.

The Little Hoyas, coached by Dan Paro, went 5-5 last season, but ended the regular season with five straight wins. Junior back Dage Davis leads the way, while senior Corey Howard and junior Zev Sheppard are under center.

Georgetown Prep is off to a 1-1 start with Davis totaling 354 yards and six total TDs.

Coach Aaron Brady’s Eagles return plenty of talent in the form of juniors. Junior back Robbie Walker (over 1,500 yards), junior free safety Miles Taylor (over 110 tackles), senior lineman Turner Echols and junior receiver Jabari Greenwood lead the way and are four of eight players with Division I offers.

Gonzaga, which went 8-3 last season, opened 2013 with games against three national foes. And two of those ended in losses, including a 56-21 trouncing by the hands of St. Peter’s in its last game.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
