HILLSBORO, OR – For the 33rd time, the Glencoe Crimson Tide and the Hillsboro Spartans will square off on Friday at 10 p.m. (EST) at Hare Field. Over 5,000 fans are expected for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
Glencoe beat Hillsboro 50-7 last season for its first back-to-back wins in the series since 2004-2005. Glencoe holds a commanding 23-9 lead in the all-time series, which began in 1980.
The Crimson Tide, who went 6-5 last season under coach Steve Jones, are off to a 2-2 start with a 6-0 win over Newberg in their last game. Senior Kainoa Hanchett returned a fumble 56 yards for the score in the win.
The Spartans hadn’t won game in two years entering this season, but have opened the season 2-2 under coach Adam Reese. They are coming off a 45-29 loss to Tualatin, however, a game in which junior quarterback Matt Jones threw for 325 yards and three TDs along with running for another score.
