PREVIEW: Edison vs. Fountain Valley (CA)

October 28, 2013

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – The Edison Chargers will be looking for yet another win over the Fountain Valley Barons when they meet in the annual “Battle for the Bell” game on Friday at 10 p.m. (EST) at Orange Coast College Stadium. More than 10,000 fans are expected for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

After last season’s 21-3 win, Edison has won eight straight in the series, which sees the winning team displaying the bell in its school’s administration offices. Edison leads the all-time series 30-14-1.

The Chargers, coached by Dave White, went 13-2 last season and advanced all the way to the Division II regional finals and came two wins shy of winning the state title. Right now, they are 5-3 after a 16-10 loss to Los Alamitos snapped their three-game winning streak. Senior quarterback Christian Heffelman (627 yards and 7 TDs) and senior back Tyler Warren (573 yards and 7 TDs) lead the charge.

Coached by Ray Fenton, the Barons have eclipsed last season’s win total by three games, as they are 7-2 after a 42-25 loss to Newport Harbor ended a streak of five straight wins. They are led by senior quarterback Scott Schultz, who has thrown for over 850 yards and eight TDs, and senior back Isaiah Davis, who has rushed for over 500 yards and three scores.
