EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – The season will come to a close for both the East Providence Townies and the La Salle Academy Rams when the two teams square off on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Pierce Memorial Stadium. Over 6,000 fans are expected to attend a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

La Salle Academy beat East Providence 34-0 last season for its sixth straight win and eighth in the last nine in what is the oldest rivalry in Rhode Island, dating back to 1929. La Salle Academy leads the all-time series 47-35-2.

The Townies, coached by Sandy Gorham, upped their season win total from 2-10 last season to 3-8 this season. They are coming off a 42-28 win over Cranston West.

The Rams, coached by Geoff Marcone, came up a TD short of beating Bishop Henderson in the Division I state championship last season, finishing at 10-2. After starting the season out on a solid note, they have now lost four in a row to move to 4-5. Their latest loss was 27-22 to Bishop Hendricken.
