PREVIEW: DeLand vs. Sanford Seminole

October 15, 2013

DeLAND, FL – The DeLand Bulldogs and the Sanford Seminole Fighting Seminoles will meet again in the regular season on Friday at 7 p.m. (EST) in the annual “Battle of the Bridge.” Over 6,000 fans are expected at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

DeLand and Sanford Seminole haven’t played each other in the regular season since DeLand won 10-7 in 2010. But they did meet in the regional quarterfinals last season with Sanford Seminole coming out on top, 26-12.

After going 6-5 last season, the James Thomson-coached Bulldogs are just 1-6 after a 28-27 loss to Lyman in their last game. The Fighting Seminoles, coached by Kerry Wiggins, are 2-5 after a 28-7 win over University snapped a five-game losing streak. They went 7-5 last season.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
