PREVIEW: Daniel Boone vs. David Crockett (TN)

October 29, 2013

GRAY, TN – The Musket is on the line when the Daniel Boone Trailblazers and the David Crockett Pioneers go head-to-head in the annual “Musket Bowl” on Friday at 7:30 p.m. (EST) at Daniel Boone High School. More than 8,000 fans are expected for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

The winner of the rivalry receives a “musket” to proudly display. Daniel Boone won 48-8 last season and has only lost 11 times in the series since 1971.

The Trailblazers are coached by Jeremy Jenkins and are enduring a disappointing season after going 8-3 in 2012. They are 3-6 with five straight losses, including a 49-20 loss to Science Hill in their last game, a game in which sophomore quarterback Caleb Sanders threw two TD passes to sophomore Ryan Keever.

The Jeremy Bosken-coached Pioneers have more than doubled their win total from last season, as they are 5-4 despite a 41-6 loss to Tennessee High snapping a three-game winning streak. In the loss, sophomore quarterback Ryan Burger threw for over 220 yards and ran for a TD but threw seven picks.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
