PREVIEW: Citrus vs. Lecanto (FL)

October 16, 2013

INVERNESS, FL – The Citrus Hurricanes will take on the Lecanto Panthers on Friday at 7:30 p.m. (EST) at Citrus High School. A crowd of over 6,500 is expected for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

This will be the 28th meeting between Citrus and Lecanto with Citrus winning the last two, including 33-0 last season. Despite Lecanto’s win in 2010, it hasn’t had much success in the series prior to then.

The Hurricanes are one win away from matching last season’s win total, as they are currently 6-0 after squeaking out a 27-26 win over Mount Dora. They are coached by Rayburn Greene.

The Panthers are off to a 2-4 start after going 5-6 last season. Coach McKinley Rolle’s team has lost four straight after a 29-25 loss to Mitchell in its last game.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
