PREVIEW: Central Cambria vs. Bishop Carroll (PA)

September 25, 2012

The Central Cambria Red Devils will host the Bishop Carroll Huskies in the 10th meeting between the two schools. Bishop Carroll won last season’s matchup 27-17 and currently holds a 7-2 advantage in the all-time series.

The Bishop Carroll Huskies are looking to rebound after posting a 2-8 record in 2011. The Huskies will have a young team in 2012 under first year Head Coach Greg Snyder, with just two seniors on the roster, one being the kicker. Bishop Carroll will run the option on offense. Junior David Maruca will be in his first year as starting quarterback. The Huskies will feature a couple of running backs in the backfield. Dan Lesney, the junior, will receive most of the carries followed by fellow junior Alex Repko. Lesney and Repko will both play defensive back on defense. The featured wide receiver will be sophomore Dane Woo. Woo could also see some carries at running back and will also see some time as defensive back on defense. Junior Brody Shuty will also line up at wide receiver for the Huskies. He will also see some action at running back as well as line up on the defensive side of the ball at safety. Junior Michael Leslie and sophomore Josh Mock will add much needed size to the offensive line. The defense will be led by sophomore Alex Keim who is also the starting fullback. Junior Marty Lessard will round out the linebacker core for the Huskies. The Huskies will have their work cut out for them in 2012 with a lack of depth and experience.

The Central Cambria Red Devils finished with a 2-8 record in 2011. The Red Devils lost nearly everyone from last season and will have the tough task of filling in replacements this season. The offense will be led under sophomore quarterback Will Seymour. The rushing attack will be handled by seniors Stephen Papuga and Tyler Gironda. Sophomore Ty Gilkey may also see some carries as well. Just like Bishop Carroll, most players will go both ways on offense and defense. Senior Brandon Long will be the Red Devils main passing threat. Senior Steven Rickard will anchor both the offensive and defensive lines to help add some much needed size for Central Cambria.
