September 9, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Two of the top-ranked teams in Indiana will square off on Friday at 7 p.m. (EST) when the Warren Central Warriors meet the Ben Davis Giants at Ben Davis High School. Over 9,000 fans are expected for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

Warren Central and Ben Davis are both ranked in the top 5 in the state and both are off to good starts with both opening the season 2-1.

Despite losing last season’s matchup (6-3), the Warriors have won 13 of the last 15 meetings since 2002. They hold a 25-18 all-time series lead.

Warren Central went 5-6 last season for its first losing season since 1999. Gone from coach Jayson West’s team are its top-3 backs, but returning is senior quarterback Jeff George and senior back Darius Lee, who has an offer from Ohio.

The Warriors are off to a much better start than last season, as they are 2-1 with wins over Indianapolis Cathedral (42-28) and Lawrence North (54-14) after opening the season with a loss.

Ben Davis, which finished 8-2 last season, returns 16 starters including junior quarterback Kyle Castner, who is a two-year starter. Coach Mike Kirschner’s team is off to an impressive start, opening 2-1 with its wins coming against Indianapolis Cathedral (26-20) and North Central (28-14).
