In Friday night’s Great American Rivalry Series matchup the Page Pirates were looking for a win– coming off of seven straight losses the cure was an eighth straight win against the Grimsley Whirlies. The Grimsley vs. Page football game is one of the top 10 games in the state of North Carolina. The intrigue was still present in the long-standing rivalry despite both teams entering the game with two wins combined.

Page scored the first touchdown of the night and Grimsley fumbled their next possession, then marched 64 yards on the ground on the next drive. The second effort by Page was third-and-goal from the 1 gave Page a 14-0 lead after one quarter. With the Whirlies trying to score a touchdown before halftime, the Pirates scored yet another and led 29-0 at halftime. Page scored on a 25-yard sprint in the third quarter, and punched it in from a yard out early in the fourth to activate the running clock as part of the mercy rule. Grimsley broke the shutout with a 19-yard touchdown pass with 6:26 to play, this would be the final touchdown of the night. The Pirates didn’t look like a winless team by the end in a 46-6 final score over rival Grimsley.
