Ft. Lauderdale, FL: August 27, 2015 – The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will feature a Florida powerhouse rivalry between the Nationally Ranked St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and the Miramar Patriots from neighboring Miramar, FL in the Series’ third weekend of games for 2015. Since 1979 these two Florida teams have competed. This year’s rivalry will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and played on Friday, September 4 at Brian Piccolo Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale. Muscle Milk will also be a sponsor. Featuring some of the longest running rivalries in high school football, the 2015 Great American Rivalry Series will feature 100 showdowns nationwide. All of these great games come with great football, hard earned sweat and a heavy dose of hometown pride.

For the 12th year, the Great American Rivalry Series has selected an exclusive collection of top-notch rivalries across the country, covering 40 states and over 100 cities throughout the country. St. Thomas Aquinas comes into the game nationally ranked in the Top 5 and has a storied tradition with 7 State Championships in Florida including recent appearances in 201,2012 and 2014. Miramar took a state championship in 2011. STA is currently ranked #3 nationally in Dallas Jackson’s HSFB100 Poll (http:/nationalhsfootball.com) after a huge first game win over Florida powerhouse Booker T. Washington last weekend. The school was the high school home to NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin and 2 Time Pro-Bowler Geno Atkins, among a number of others. Head Coach and Athletic Director George Smith has become one of the most well respected high school coaches in the country. Not to be outdone, Miramar’s “Dark Side” Defense has plans to thwart the Raiders this year.

The St. Thomas Aquinas-Miramar game was selected as one of the top 100 must-see match ups for the 12th Annual Series. The winning team earns year-long bragging rights and will take home the Great American Rivalry Series Champions trophy, presented by the Marines. The game’s Most Valuable Player and the top student-athlete from each school are also recognized as part of the Series. Along with these awards, an alumnus from each school will be inducted into the 12th class of the Great American Rivalry Series Hall of Fame.
