Oxford, MS – September 11, 2015 – The 2015 Great American Rivalry Series, presented by Oxford Insurance Group and Safeco Insurance, was in Oxford, MS on September 11 to highlight one of the most heated rivalries in Mississippi: Oxford vs. Lafayette.

The Oxford Chargers paid a visit to Lafayette High School to take on the Lafayette Commodores in the Crosstown Classic for the coveted Great American Rivalry Series trophy and earn community bragging rights. Oxford Insurance Group and Safeco Insurance were on hand to help celebrate this great rivalry and presented two Scholar Athletes with $250 scholarships as families, friends and fans watched on.

For the 12th year, the Great American Rivalry Series has selected an exclusive collection of top-notch rivalries across the country, covering 40 states and over 100 cities throughout the country. Wrapped in tradition, these annual battles excite entire communities, while celebrating the schools, their teams, and their fans. We Know Friday NightsTM

Series founder Rick Ford notes that, “With all the traditions of these games including bonfires, pep rallies, and parades, high school football has brought communities together to watch their teams compete in these classic battles for more than a hundred years.”

Lafayette’s stadium was packed with fans from both teams watching with the same enthusiasm as they have since the team’s first meeting in 1972. At the start of the game, at mid-field with their parents looking on, Oxford Insurance representative Tim Tatum and Safeco Representative Jay Lunch awarded the scholarships for outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom to Bradley Winters from Lafayette High School and Jimmy Greaser from Oxford High School.
