Maryville, TN – September 11, 2015 – The 2015 Great American Rivalry Series, presented by Cate-Russell Insurance and Safeco Insurance, was in Maryville, TN on September 11 to highlight one of the most heated rivalries in Tennessee: Alcoa vs. Maryville.
The Alcoa Tornadoes came to Maryville to take on the Maryville Rebels for the coveted Great American Rivalry Series trophy and earn community bragging rights. Cate-Russell Insurance and Safeco Insurance were on hand to help celebrate this great rivalry and presented two Scholar Athletes with $250 scholarships as families, friends and fans watched on.
For the 12th year, the Great American Rivalry Series has selected an exclusive collection of top-notch rivalries across the country, covering 40 states and over 100 cities throughout the country. Wrapped in tradition, these annual battles excite entire communities, while celebrating the schools, their teams, and their fans. We Know Friday NightsTM
Series founder Rick Ford notes that, “With all the traditions of these games including bonfires, pep rallies, and parades, high school football has brought communities together to watch their teams compete in these classic battles for more than a hundred years.”
Maryville’s stadium was packed with fans from both teams watching with the same enthusiasm as they have since the team’s first meeting in 1927. At the start of the game, at mid-field with their parents looking on, Cate-Russell representatives, Mark Russell and Leslie Cate awarded the scholarships for outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom to Kyle Cunningham from Maryville High School and Mitchell McClurg from Alcoa High School.
“We were honored to be a part of the Alcoa vs. Maryville matchup and very honored to present these two athletes and young men with the Scholarship Award and plaque.” said Leslie Cate of Cate-Russell Insurance. His business partner Mark Russell said, “We thank Safeco Insurance for its partnership in making this happen.”
Highlights throughout the game were tweeted using #GreatAmericanRivalry, and were shared via Facebook and Cate-Russell Insurance’s Facebook.
