Canton, OH: Oct. 23, 2015 – The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will once again feature what USA Today called “America’s most famous high school rivalry” as the Canton McKinley Bulldogs host the Massillon Washington Tigers on Saturday, October 31 in the Series’ eleventh weekend of games for 2015. This game will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and will be played at Fawcett Stadium in Canton. The game will also be a LIVE BROADCAST on the Rivalry Series Broadcast Network. Featuring some of the longest running rivalries in high school football, the 2015 Great American Rivalry Series will feature 100 showdowns nationwide. All of these great games come with great football, hard earned sweat and a heavy dose of hometown pride.
For the 12th year, the Great American Rivalry Series has selected an exclusive collection of top-notch rivalries across the country, covering 40 states and over 100 cities throughout the country. The 2015 contest will be the 126th meeting of the Tigers and Bulldogs in this famed rivalry. Overall the Tigers lead the series 68-52-5. Over the years Massillon has won 24 State Championships and claimed 9 national championships while McKinley has 12 State Championships and 2 national championships. Massillon has the third highest number of wins of all high schools with 853 and McKinley comes in eighth with 812. The series draws nearly 19,000 fans each year though in 2001 29,500 came to see the two teams battled it out in the Division 1 Region Semifinal, their second meeting of the season. The Tigers are coming into the 2015 game with a 4 win streak after downing the Bulldogs 31-21 in 2014.
The winning team will take home the Great American Rivalry Series Champions trophy, presented by the Marines. The game’s Most Valuable Player and the top student-athlete from each school are also recognized as part of the Series. Along with these awards, an alumnus from each school will be inducted into the 12th class of the Great American Rivalry Series Hall of Fame.
