Buffalo, NY: Oct. 2, 2015 – The Great American Rivalry Series is proud to announce that it will feature one of Buffalo, New York’s oldest rivalries when the St. Joseph’s Marauders visit the Canisius Crusaders in the Series’ eighth weekend of games for 2015. This game will be presented by the United States Marine Corps and is played on Saturday, October 10 at Canisius High School. Featuring some of the longest running rivalries in high school football, the 2015 Great American Rivalry Series will feature 100 showdowns nationwide. All of these great games come with great football, hard earned sweat and a heavy dose of hometown pride.
For the 12th year, the Great American Rivalry Series has selected an exclusive collection of top-notch rivalries across the country, covering 40 states and over 100 cities throughout the country. Started in 1921, this historic rivalry has been played 84 times since with a long hiatus between 1932 and 1947. Most recently, Canisius won their 4th in a row in 2014 with a 17-0 shutout, though the Marauders of St. Joseph’s still hold the overall lead with a 47-34-3 record.
The winning team will take home the Great American Rivalry Series Champions trophy, presented by the Marines. The game’s Most Valuable Player and the top student-athlete from each school are also recognized as part of the Series. Along with these awards, an alumnus from each school will be inducted into the 12th class of the Great American Rivalry Series Hall of Fame.
