Mater Dei 20, Servite 17 (10/17/2014)

October 18, 2014

For over 50 years, these two catholic teams have squared off on the gridiron. For the 2014 “Holy War” there were stars everywhere. Fans could see former NFL players, Heisman winners, legendary coaches and many college scouts who came to watch and participate. Many of the players have already committed to play football at big time schools. It was a big game and a big deal but it always is here in Santa Ana. Both schools are ranked in the top 25 in the country and Mater Dei as high as #1. Both teams ranked #1 & #2 in Orange County. In a close game all night, the Friars from Servite led 17-13 with 7:00 minutes remaining. But it was MVP Brandon LaMarche from Mater Dei that scored the game winning touchdown with 1:22 left to play in the game. The Friars played most of the game without star quarterback and Oregon commit, Travis Waller who got hurt early in the game. Final 20-17 Mater Dei. The Mater Dei Monarchs lead the series 35-17-2
