The Tigers and Maroons have been at this cross-town rivalry since 1968 with Dowling holding the edge 39-27. The Crosstown Classic was a firestorm last year as Valley squeaked by 24-21. The two teams each have 5 state championships, and Dowling Catholic has recently won in 2013 and 2014. The winning team earns year-long bragging rights and will take home the Great American Rivalry Series Champions trophy, presented by the Marines. The game’s Most Valuable Player and the top student-athlete from each school are also recognized as part of the Series. Along with these awards, an alumnus from each school will be inducted into the 12th class of the Great American Rivalry Series Hall of Fame.  All of these should be featured on the live broadcast.

You can find more information at GreatAmericanRivalry.com or through the Series’ Twitter (@AmericanRivalry & #greatamericanrivalry), Facebook, YouTube and Instagram accounts. Previews and past results will be posted throughout the season with details of the teams and the history of the rivalries, and after the game. Fans can relive the excitement with photo galleries and game recaps.
