LAKELAND, FL — Finally.

For the first time since 1992, the Kathleen Red Devils beat the Lakeland Dreadnaughts, 24-3 on Friday night at Bryant Stadium. More than 8,500 fans came out for the game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

With the win, Kathleen claimed the Class 7A, District 5 title.

Kevin Wilson was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player after throwing for 241 yards and three TDs. He hit Marquis Zinnermon for two scores and Ja’Von Harrison on a 73-yarder.
Zack Feddeler hit a 37-yard field goal to give Lakeland a 3-0, but Kathleen scored a TD with seconds left in the half.

Lakeland (9-1) ends its regular season, while Kathleen (8-1) hosts American Heritage next Friday night.
