On a cold, gray Saturday afternoon in Islip Terrace, New York the East Islip Redmen renewed their cross-town rivalry with the West Islip Lions. West Islip senior quarterback and game MVP Scott Mattera led the Lions to victory 35-14. Mattera rushed for 109 yards and threw for two touchdowns in the second half to break the game open

The game, the 31st in the series, stayed close throughout the first half with both teams battling the wind, the rain, and each other for scoring opportunities. The halftime score of 7-7 was broken open with West Islip’s Ian Braddish 99 yard kick off return for a touchdown to start the second half. Game MVP Scott Mattera lead the Lions on three additional scoring drives during the second half as the senior lead Lions overwhelmed the younger Redmen.

One of the bright spots for the Redmen came from East Islip junior kicker Sean Moller as his two extra point kicks tied him for the Long Island School League record for most kicking points in a career at 127.

With the victory on Saturday, the West Islip Lions now lead the rivalry series 15-13-3.
