Annual Hoover-Vestavia Game Selected for 11th Annual Great American Rivalry Series
Classic Alabama HS Football Rivalry Receives National Attention

Hoover, AL: October 17, 2014 – It’s back to the glory, roaring fans, camaraderie, sideline chants, sold-out seats and head-to-head battles between Great American Rivals. With some of the longest running matches in the history of high school football, these annual showdowns come with great football, hard-earned sweat and hometown pride.

The 2014 Great American Rivalry Series, presented by Clark Associates and Safeco Insurance, hits the road this season to Hoover, Alabama on Oct. 17 to highlight one of the most heated rivalries in the country: Hoover (HSFB100 #29) vs. Vestavia.

For the 11th year, the Great American Rivalry Series has selected an exclusive collection of top–notch rivalries across the country, covering 36 states and 92 cities throughout the country. Wrapped in tradition, these annual battles motivate entire communities, celebrating the schools, their teams, and their fans.

Series founder and CEO Rick Ford notes that, “With all the traditions of bonfires, pep rallies, and parades, high school football has brought together communities to watch their teams compete in these classic battles for more than a hundred years.”

The Hoover Buccaneers and Vestavia Hills Rebels will take the field for week 8 of the 2014 Series. Over 10,000 fans are expected to pack the stands at Hoover High School to witness this classic Alabama clash between these long-time rivals.

You can find more information at GreatAmericanRivalry.com or through the Series’ Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. Previews and past results will be posted throughout the season with details of the teams and the history of the rivalries, and after the game. Fans can relive the excitement with photo galleries and game recaps.

The Hoover-Vestavia game was selected as one of the top 100 must-see match ups for the 11th Annual Series. These teams meet each year in this heated Alabama high school rivalry with well over 10,000 fans in attendance. Hoover won last season’s regular season game 17-7 and currently holds a 30-18 advantage since their first meeting in 1972. The Rebels will enter the game hungry, as they hope to avenge last year’s 31-28 playoff loss to the Buccaneers.

The winning team earns year-long bragging rights, and the Great American Rivalry Series Champions trophy, presented by Clark Associates and Safeco Insurance. The game’s Most Valuable Player and the top student-athlete from each school are also recognized as part of the series and, for two alumni at each game, the Friday night spotlight will shine again as they are inducted into the 11th class of the Great American Rivalry Series Hall of Fame.

“We are thrilled to support the Vestavia vs. Hoover matchup and very honored to be able to present the winner’s trophy and the MVP award to the winning team,” said Kinn Webb, of Clark Associates. Webb, who has significant ties to both communities, grew up in Bluff Park and his insurance agency has been located in Hoover for nearly 30 years. Both of his children will graduate from Vestavia.  Webb added, “We thank Safeco Insurance for its partnership in making this happen, and we hope to see packed stands of fans at the game!”
