Hoover 17, Vestavia Hills 7 (9/27/13)

HOOVER, AL — Hoover hasn’t lost a game in quite some time.

The Hoover Buccaneers beat the Vestavia Hills Rebels 17-7 in a battle of unbeatens on Friday night in front of over 12,000 fans at Metropolitan Stadium. The game was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

The Buccaneers, who are ranked No. 1 in the state and high nationally, have won 20 straight games dating back to last season in which they won the Class 6A state title. They have won five straight in the series with the Rebels and 14 of the last 17 overall.

Bradrick Shaw had 15 carries for 111 yards, including a 14-yard TD, to be named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player. Jack Hutcheson hit Justin Johnson for a 37-yard score for the other TD.

The Hoover defense played exceptionally well, limiting the Vestavia Hills offense to just 86 total yards.

Hoover (4-0) hosts Bessemer City next Friday night, while Vestavia Hills (4-1) hosts Woodlawn the same night.
