Highland Springs 47, Varina 20 (11/7/2014)

The Varina vs. Highland Springs football game runs deep in the city of Richmond, VA. Both are storied programs that draw large crowds at capacity level. Highland Springs entered the game with an undefeated 9-0 record and were heavy favorites going against the home team of Varina with a record of 5-5.

Although the Blue Devils from Varina were the heavy underdogs heading into the big matchup, they were the first to put points on the board taking an early lead. Heading into the 2nd quarter the score was all tied up at six a piece. But the 2nd quarter was all Highland Springs as they scored 27 unanswered points while riding the back of star running back Marcus Taylor. The second half continued with Highland Springs scoring on almost all possessions with Varina answering only twice. The final score ended with Highland Springs winning convincingly, 47-20. Marcus Taylor from Highland Springs earned Great American Rivalry Series MVP honors.
