Hahnville 47, Destrehan 44 (11/2/12)

The Hahnville vs. Destrehan game is one of the toughest and most talked about games in Louisiana. These teams have played one another for years with this being the last game in the regular season. Both teams were looking for a share of the District Championship and also make it to the playoffs. This is one mean and tough Rivalry game between the two schools.

The Hahnville Tigers hosted the Destrehan Wildcats tonight in the “Battle on the River” in Destrehan, Louisiana. Hahnville won last season’s battle, 34-3, to extend its winning streak in the series to 3 games. This series is one of the most passionate and thrilling rivalries in Louisiana, dating back to 1946. Destrehan leads the all-time series in wins 30-19-2. This year the rivalry game made history, having the highest scoring game with a combined total of 82 points with both teams going into overtime thriller with a 41-41 score and lasting 4 hours.

First half gets started with Destrehan coming out strong in the game with only minutes into the first quarter, Destrehan scores 1st touchdown. Hahnville now has the ball but then fumbles leading Destrehan to grab the ball and shoot it down the field scoring another touchdown. Destrehan looking strong and confident they are in a good lead until Hahnville comes running down the field with the ball and scoring a 2-yard touchdown with a little over 5 minutes left in the 1st.

In the second quarter, Hahnville managed to cut into the Destrehan lead with a 43-yard field goal, but Destrehan came right back with another score. The Wildcats faked a punt picking up five yards for a first down which eventually led to a 20-yard touchdown run to give the Wildcats the lead for the half with the Tigers trailing 27-13 at the half.

Second half gets underway with the Tigers and the Wildcats rushing the field, this game is not over yet and won’t be over easily. Hahnville scores a 17-yard touchdown bringing the score to 27-20, Destrehan. Most Valuable Player of the game Sergio Medina scores his 3rd touchdown of the night on a 60-yard run bringing this game to a tie with a little over 5 minutes left in the third. Destrehan has the ball but it slips and gives Hahnville another touchdown of the night with the Tigers leading the game for the first time, 34-27. The Wildcats answer back immediately bringing the game back to a tie. Both teams continued to score back to back and running out the clock, with a 41-41 tie game, the final seconds run out of the clock taking this game into overtime.

In the final moments of the game in overtime Destrehan kicks a field goal and it is good. Now its the Hahnville Tigers turn and they decide to go for the big win- running the ball, and Hahnville scores!! This game is over with a final score, 47-44 in an awesome overtime.
