Grosse Pointe North 22, Grosse Pointe South 20 (09/26/2014)

September 27, 2014

In Friday night’s Great American Rivalry Series matchup the Blue Devils from Grosse Pointe South looked to do something they had never done in the history of the 47-year-old rivalry with Grosse Point North — win six consecutive games against their arch-rivals, this game is known as ‘The Battle of the Pointes’.

South was in good position to extend its winning streak to five games until North’s Daniel Robinson scored on a fourth-down quarterback run with 52.8 seconds left on the clock to tie the game at 20. Robinson then ran it into the end zone on a 2-point conversion to help seal the victory for the Norsemen. Grosse Pointe North snapped a four-game losing streak to Grosse Pointe South via a 22-20 victory at South.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
