Gonzaga/Georgetown Prep Winners of 1st Rivalry Game of the Week Poll

September 18, 2015

In an effort to heat up the rivalries even more, the Great American Rivalry Series staff instituted a new poll earlier this week for everyone to vote for the “Rivalry Game of the Week.”  We will institute this poll every Monday morning for the remainder of the season as this one went so well.

In the short 3 days of the poll, there were 28,934 votes among the 8 games.  There were two clear runaway games on the final day voting and it was a back and forth battle for both, but the Gonzaga College Prep vs. Georgetown Prep (Washington DC) game ended up as winners with 11,561 votes while the second place game was close behind as Dowling Catholic vs. Valley (Iowa) ended with 11,253, only 308 votes away.

Final results for this week:

Gonzaga (DC) vs. Georgetown Prep (DC): 11,561

Dowling Catholic vs. Valley (Iowa): 11,253

Green Bay West vs. Green Bay East (Wisconsin): 4,004

Byrnes vs. Gaffney (South Carolina): 1,023

Timpview vs. Provo (Utah): 825

Mt. Carmel vs. St. Rita (Illinois): 116

Victor Valley vs. Apple Valley (California): 80

Center vs. St. Pius X (Missouri): 72

Next week we are featuring 9 big rivalry games.  Voting will be available beginning at 9 AM EST on Monday.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
