GAME SUMMARY

Lakewood's Troyvon Johnson, the game’s MVP, sparked a second-half comeback, leading the Spartans to a 14-6 win at Gibbs. Following a botched punt, Johnson took over at quarterback and threw a 6-yard touchdown to Khalid Davis, giving the Spartans a lead they never relinquished. The Spartans ran Johnson out of the Wildcat for the majority of the game. In an otherwise ugly game, Johnson and the Spartans capitalized on two personal foul penalties and three first-down runs to take a commanding 14-6 lead as the third quarter wound down. The drive was capped off with Johnson's 7-yard run. Both defenses had strong games. Gibbs held the Spartans to negative yards in the first half, and Lakewood sacked Gladiators' quarterback Cornelius McKenzie 10 times. Johnson, after being held to fewer than 10 yards in the first half, finished the game with 45 yards running as well as two touchdowns, one rushing and one passing.
