The Concord Spiders beat the AL Brown Wonders 33-20 on Friday night in the annual “Battle for the Bell” in front of more than 8,000 fans at Memorial Stadium. The Spiders, last year’s 3-A state runners-up, have now won two straight over the Wonders, earning the Victory Bell trophy — an old Southern Railways Bell painted in the winning school’s colors — in the longest running rivalry in North Carolina. It’s their first back-to-back wins in the series since 1985-86.
