There was no shortage of offense at the 2011 edition of the Foley/Fairhope game. Fairhope wasted no time getting on the board. The Pirates first two possessions were efficient drives of 80 and 43 yards respectively and put Fairhope up 14-0 after the first quarter.
Foley countered early in the second quarter as a mishandled Fairhope snap allowed Foley excellent field position and the Lions capitalized bringing the score to 14-7 at the 11:10 mark of the 2nd Quarter. Fairhope looked primed to answer until a Foley defensive back returned an interception for a touchdown that knotted the score at 14. On Fairhope’s next possession they did answer, with a well executed two minute scoring drive making it 21-14. The Pirates then created an interception on Foley’s next possession and converted that turnover into a field goal, quickly extending the lead to 24-14. Fairhope tacked on another touchdown prior to the half to send Foley to the locker room down 31-14.
It was a good thing Fairhope built the cushion, because Foley turned two Fairhope special team miscues into touchdowns early in the 3rd quarter and by the 7:32 mark it was a 31-28 game. But true to form on the evening Fairhope did not buckle under the pressure. They marched the ensuing drive for a touchdown to extend the lead yet again. Foley tacked on another touchdown, but in the end the Fairhope offense provide too much for the Foley Lions to overcome. That offense was led by Great American Rivalry Series MVP Fairhope #2 Chase Domino.
