East Islip 21, West Islip 0 (10/30/10)

October 31, 2010

by Jon Ford

It was a breezy but sunny day in West Islip NY as these two teams prepared for this important cross-town rivalry. East Islip had to win in order to maintain the top seed in the District, and West was trying to earn a spot in the playoffs. Not to mention it was senior night, the last time the seniors would ever battle for the Great American Rivalry Series.

The first quarter showcased the reasons East were state champion contenders. With a decisive 14-0 lead at the half, West had to find a way to make this any kind of a game, but as the game went on East proved to be way too strong.

Tyler Rigo, who put up two scores to lead his team to a victory, was too much for the West too handle as East came out on top witha final score was 21-0.

On that cool windy day in Long Island, the East Islip football team took home their second Great American Rivalry Series Trophy. Tyler Rigo took home the MVP medal and trophy, and his team hoist the Championship trophy for all to see.

The score was not evident of the hard-fought battle put up by West Islip, whose seniors can hold their heads high.
