Destrehan 24, Hahnville 6 (10/3/2014)

October 4, 2014

Destrehan never got a challenge from Hahnville in this Battle on the River in New Orleans. Destrehan came out on top 24-6.

This 63 year old “Battle of the River” rivalry game is one of the top games in Louisiana with the two schools combining for three state championships and eight district titles in the past 12 years. Hahnville lost its starting quarterback a week before the game to an injury and had a very tough schedule and some very close games. The Tigers were hoping to break out against their long time rival Wildcats. Fans arrived early to secure a seat in the sold out stadium.

It was a defensive battle in the first half as Destrehan went into the locker room with only a 3-0 lead. But the 2nd half running of MVP Kirk Merritt secured the win for the Wildcats 24-7 for their second consecutive win over the Tigers. With 2 minutes to go, Merritt broke a 92 yd touchdown run to seal the deal. Destrehan now leads the series 36-24-3. The Wildcats now undefeated are in great shape for a playoff spot this season.
