November 9, 2013

ROCKLIN, CA — Del Oro is the Sierra Foothill League champions!

The Del Oro Golden Eagles held on for a 14-13 win over the Rocklin Thunder on Friday night at Thunder Stadium. More than 7,000 fans watched the close game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Army and Hibbett Sports.

Both teams came into the game undefeated at 4-0 in league play.

Del Oro held on after Rocklin failed on a two-point conversion after scoring in the third quarter. Del Oro had initially blocked the extra-point attempt, but a personal foul gave Rocklin another shot. Max O’Rourke just missed on the pass attempt and that’s the way the score stood for the rest of the game.

Michael Moore completed 10 of 16 passes for 77 yards and a TD for the Golden Eagles. Tight end Tyler Meteer was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player.

Logan Webb threw for 178 yards and two scores to O’Rourke of 70 and 30 yards for the Thunder.

This was the final regular-season game for both Del Oro (8-2) and Rocklin (7-3).
