Daphne 17, Foley 13 (09/10/10)

September 14, 2010

by Jon Ford

It was your typical night in southern Alabama–hot and humid–over 6,000 coming out to witness the contest. The teams were not very big, but very skilled and well coached. There was definitely some Division 1 speed on both sides of the field.

The game started off with a defensive battle. The first half ended with Foley leading 13-10 after Daphne was slowed down by a couple of costly penalties, one of them erasing a 60-yard kick-off return.

Once Daphne took the lead during the second half, it was evident that Coach Vickery was going control the tempo by using his two outstanding tail backs.

The final score was 17-13, with Daphne continuing their winning streak against Foley. Roderick Tate took home the MVP trophy, and the senior class of Daphne hoisted the Great American Rivalry Series trophy into the lights for all the Trojan fans to see.

What is the Great American Rivalry Series?

Each fall for over a century, high school football has been the centerpiece for families and communities on Friday night. In 2004, iHigh, Inc. created the Great American Rivalry Series to celebrate this uniquely American sport and the cultural phenomenon of “Friday Night in America.” The Series shines the spotlight on top high school football rivalries across the nation, where long-standing traditions are valued, expectations are sky high, and followers are committed.
