DUNCAN, SC — Byrnes was a second-half team on Friday night.
Using a huge second half, the Byrnes Rebels cruised to a 61-20 win over the Gaffney Indians at Nixon Field. Over 18,000 fans attended a game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
The Rebels, ranked second in the state and high nationally, outscored the Indians 36-7 in the second half for its first regular-season win in the series since 2009. They’ve scored over 50 points six times this season.
Isaiah ran for 105 yards and three TDs and was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player. He had TD runs of 2, 22 and 1 yard and he also got a 46-yard screen pass from Shuler Bentley for another score. Bentley finished with 352 yards and five TDs.
Quarterback Shaq Davidson threw for 193 yards and ran for 52 more and a TD for Gaffney, which won the state title last season.
Byrnes (7-1) is at Mauldin next Friday night, while Gaffney (5-3) hosts Riverside the same night.
