Byrnes 29, Gaffney 7 (9/19/2014)

September 20, 2014

This historic South Carolina rivalry ended with a Rebel win as Byrnes downs Gaffney 29-7.

Though Byrnes has led this series over the last decade while racking up several titles over that period, Gaffney has the overall win edge along with its record number of South Carolina state titles. As 4,500 people looked on at The Reservation on Friday night, the Rebels (3-1) bounced back from last week’s defeat in California by keeping Gaffney (0-5) winless. Though the host Indians scored the first points of the second half on a three-yard run by senior Jordon Shippy to cut the lead to 15-7, it was the closest they would come, as the short-lived momentum was halted by a 95-yard kickoff return immediately following. Final score was 29-7.
