It will be played on Friday, September 11 at Alcoa High School. This game will also be the third LIVE Broadcast of the season for the Series. Featuring some of the longest running rivalries in high school football, the 2015 Great American Rivalry Series will feature 100 showdowns nationwide. All of these great games come with great football, hard earned sweat and a heavy dose of hometown pride.

For the 12th year, the Great American Rivalry Series has selected an exclusive collection of top-notch rivalries across the country, covering 40 states and over 100 cities throughout the country. Wrapped in tradition, these annual battles excite entire communities, while celebrating the schools, their teams, and their fans. We Know Friday NightsTM

The Alcoa-Maryville Rivalry is born out of an industrial battle as Maryville sought after a large aluminum plant in the 1920s. But the Aluminum Company of America bought land north of Maryville and built a new town from scratch, calling it Alcoa.

The football rivalry dates back to 1927 and the competition between the “Twin Cities” of Alcoa and Maryville has many of the same ingredients found in the recipes of other great athletic rivalries in the country. The schools are close in proximity, they both have great records of success and the stakes of the gridiron grudge matches include the “bragging rights” of neighbors. Between the two schools there is a combination of 25 state championships.

The winning team earns year-long bragging rights and will take home the Great American Rivalry Series Champions trophy, presented by Cate-Russell Insurance, a Safeco Agent. The game’s Most Valuable Player and the top student-athlete from each school are also recognized as part of the Series. Along with these awards, an alumnus from each school will be inducted into the 12th class of the Great American Rivalry Series Hall of Fame.

You can find more information at or through the Series’ Twitter (@AmericanRivalry), Facebook, YouTube and Instagram accounts. Previews and past results will be posted throughout the season with details of the teams and the history of the rivalries, and after the game. Fans can relive the excitement with photo galleries and game recaps.
